Your membership dues, donations, fundraising, and volunteer efforts all contribute to these PTA programs:
Art Masters: Art Masters provides all grade levels with the opportunity to learn about and try out the techniques of famous artists. The PTA provides the supplies and the funding for the lecturer and art teacher.
Classroom Enrichment: PTA provides funds to each teacher to purchase materials for their classroom.
Dance with Dawn Dyson: Ms. Dyson teaches folk dance in a hands-on environment, incorporating history, geography and culture into her weekly sessions.
Emergency Preparedness: The PTA stocks and maintains a disaster bin at the school that includes emergency food rations, water, first aid and hygiene supplies.
Helping Hands: A school outreach program designed to offer assistance to any Portola Hills family experiencing a crisis brought on by a death in the family, medical crisis, and other like situations. We provide meals or other help for those families going through difficult times.
Kids Run the OC: The Kids Run the OC Program is a 10-12 week program that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle to kids to help prevent the onset of child obesity. During the 10-12 weeks, the kids have practice before, during or after school, where they accumulate a total of 25.2 miles of exercise through FUN, play activities!
Library Enrichment: PTA provides the library with funds to replenish their stock of relevant and new books for the students to enjoy.
Performing Arts Assembly: Each year PTA funds a performing arts assembly for the students to enjoy. Past assemblies include the very popular Imagination Machine and Disneyland Band.
Reflections: A national PTA arts program that recognizes student achievement in visual art, photography, music and literature. Winners at the local level can advance up to the state and national levels.
Science Fair: For all budding scientists, this program is open to 3rd through 6th graders and encourages students in the field of science and engineering by allowing them to enter their scientific experiments for display to other students and parents.
Staff Appreciation Week: The PTA coordinates this week to show teachers and staff how much they are appreciated. The culmination is a themed luncheon provided by the PTA.
STEAM Lab: The STEAM lab engages students in every grade level with curriculum designed to enhance hands-on understanding of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The STEAM lab is 100% funded by PTA.
Technology: The PTA has provided the funds for the computers, printers, hardware, software, and accessory and maintenance items. Additionally, the PTA has played a major role in maintaining up-to-date technology for Portola Hills Elementary, including Chromebooks, Chromebook carts, and iPads for classroom use.
Theater in Action: New this year for grades 4-6. The Theater in Action is a performing arts program run through Creative Kids Playhouse. Theater is a wonderful way to explore literature, looking at a situation from another’s point of view, develop empathy, expressiveness, and learn to speak with confidence
Yearbook: Designed and produced annually by the PTA, the yearbook is offered to all students at the cost to produce it and includes the year in review for all grades.
