Your membership dues, donations, and volunteer efforts contribute to these PTA enrichment programs. (NOTE: Due to COVID-19, some of these programs have been modified or temporarily suspended)
Art Masters: Art Masters provides all grade levels with the opportunity to learn about and try out the techniques of famous artists. It is 100% funded by the PTA, including all supplies, the lecturer, and art teacher.
Classroom Enrichment: At the beginning of the year, the PTA gives each PHE teacher funds to use on classroom enrichment materials.
Dancing with Dawn Dyson: Dawn’s workshops focus on traditional (folk) dance and provide a window into cultures of various ethnic groups. Content is chosen to suit grade and class levels, curriculum needs, scheduling requirements, and a school’s specific interest. Utilizing dance and music from various regions of the world, workshops engage students in content through a myriad of choices. Topics can include cultural background and heritage, storytelling, folkcraft, improvisation, and musical instruments. Any of these, as well as the dances, can be integrated into core curriculum areas such as Social Science, Math, and Language Arts.
Kids Run the OC: Kids Run the OC is a training program associated with the OC Marathon that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle. During the 10-12 weeks prior to the big race, the kids have weekly practice after school, where they accumulate a total of 25.2 miles of exercise through fun play activities. They run the last mile of the "marathon" on the day before the OC Marathon.
Performing Arts Assembly: Each year, PTA funds an interactive performing arts assembly for the students to enjoy. Past assemblies include the very popular Imagination Machine and Disneyland Band.
Reflections: Reflections is a national PTA arts program that recognizes student achievement in visual art, photography, music and literature. Winners at the local level can advance up to the state and national levels.
Science & Engineering Fair: The Science & Engineering Fair is open to 2nd through 6th grade students and encourages students to creatively apply the scientific method to conduct independent research and experiments.
Staff Appreciation Week: The PTA coordinates this week to show teachers and staff how much they are appreciated. The culmination is a themed luncheon provided by the PTA.
STEAM Program: The STEAM Program engages students in every grade level with curriculum designed to enhance hands-on understanding of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The STEAM program is 100% funded by PTA.
Technology: The PTA supplements the school's technology needs by providing funds for iPads, chromebooks, 3-D printers, and more.
Theater in Action: Run through Creative Kids Playhouse, each classroom receives nine 50-minute lessons with course material tailored for each grade level and aligned with extensive Common Core Standards related to theater education. Performances are held during the school day, during the final class meeting. Theater is a wonderful way to explore literature, looking at a situation from another’s point of view, develop empathy, expressiveness, and learn to speak with confidence. Students involved in theater improve reading comprehension, verbal and nonverbal communication skills, self esteem, as well as their confidence in their academic abilities.
Yearbook: Designed and produced annually by the PTA, the yearbook is offered to all students at the cost to produce it and includes the year in review for all grades.
